Northwest Georgia Credit Union is proud to honor two outstanding high school seniors. Kristen Shiflett of Armuchee High School was chosen as the recipient of the Tom Nunn Memorial Scholarship and Jacey Boyd of Pepperell High School was chosen as the recipient of the Progressive Leader Scholarship.

Michelle Stricklin, President/CEO presents Tom Nunn Memorial Scholarship to Kristen Shiflett.

Kristen is the daughter of Richard and Lisa Shiflett. She involves herself in the community by offering her time to youth summer camps. She also participated in the Atlanta Half Marathon and served as the team leader for the National Honor Society’s October fundraising project. Shiflett is also involved in her school’s varsity tennis and cross country teams. Shiflett will apply her scholarship toward her education at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she plans to study industrial engineering. The Tom Nunn Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Mr. Tom Nunn, a late Director of Northwest Georgia Credit Union. This scholarship honors a commitment to excellence in academics, service, and community involvement.

Michelle Stricklin, President/CEO presents Progressive Leader scholarship to Jacey Boyd.

Jacey Boyd, the recipient of the Progressive Leader Scholarship, is the daughter of John and Amy Boyd. She attends Pepperell High School and plans to attend the University of West Georgia in the fall to study human resource management and business administration. The Progressive Leadership Scholarship honors a student with leadership skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a passion for a cause of their own with the skills to make it happen. Boyd’s cause is organ donation and she is using her skills to meet needs in our community. As an active proponent of organ donation, Boyd worked to bring the non-profit organization, Donate to Life, to Rome. She and the group conducted an awareness campaign at her church and school.

Congratulations and best wishes to both of these exceptional students!

Introducing – Myself! (Stephanie Graves, the new Director of Marketing at Northwest Georgia Credit Union)

December 2, 2011

That’s right, I’m one of NWGACU’s newest employees, and I’m here to make sure our marketing efforts continue to be unbeatable. It’s already been a terrific week here in the office, and I’m so excited to be working alongside such a wonderful group of people.

As a Samford University graduate (Go Bulldogs!), I began my career with a Birmingham non-profit, where I found a love for all things marketing and public relations. I’m very thankful for the opportunity to put my knowledge in these fields to use here at NWGACU, and to be a part of this unbelievable community.

I look forward to working with all of our wonderful members, and I’m so excited to be un-banking!

Branch Facelift

July 26, 2011

For the past month the NWGACU branch on Dean Avenue was under construction in order to upgrade the outside of the building. Since the branch opened in 1997, it’s been changed a few times to keep up with the brand and current looks. Now it is sharp and looking better than ever! Look below to see a comparison of the branch when it opened and today’s view!

Happy Birthday, Michelle!

July 18, 2011

Today we celebrated all day for our President/CEO, Michelle Stricklin’s 40th birthday! Michelle’s birthday was this past weekend on July 16 and we decided to celebrate at the credit union today! Here at NWGACU we celebrate everyone’s birthday by having breakfast (which is always delicious) and sing them some type of “Happy Birthday” song. On milestone birthdays, like Michelle’s, we go all out and decorate the person’s office, the kitchen, and the hallways. We make it extra special by bringing in tons of great food and of course a HoneyMoon Bakery cake! What a great way to spend a Monday at work – Happy Birthday, Michelle!

Many Thanks in Different Forms

June 23, 2011

As you may know from our last blog post, we are thanking our wonderful members all this week in honor of our 50th year anniversary. We have a whole lot to be thankful for in our 50 unbelievable years!

This week we’ve sent thank you cards, wrote thank you post it notes, and held a thank you reception (that is actually still going on right now)! If you are one of our members and you haven’t dropped by one of our branches today, then you definitely should because we have free cookies and punch! Throughout this thank you week we’ve also had a staff thank you to each other. We’ve been giving each other “high-fives” on our high-five wall! There are so many different ways you can thank someone or show someone you appreciate them. We hope that our members will continue to be loyal to NWGACU as we enter our 51st year anniversary. You know, that is over a half a century old!

The Power of Saying Thank You

June 21, 2011

In honor of our 50th year anniversary at Northwest Georgia Credit Union, we’ve planned this week to be a thank you to all of our members.

Saying thank you is a valuable life skill that everyone should practice. Whether it’s a simple thank you at the cash register or a long thank you note to someone who has helped you out, the person receiving the thank you will always appreciate it. Not only should people have this skill, but businesses should have it too. At the credit union, we are very grateful for our members and extremely thankful that they are un-banking with us.

This week our entire staff hand-wrote many thank you cards to our most loyal members at the credit union and also wrote thank you on Post-it Notes to display in the lobbies. We’re holding an all-day reception on Thursday, June 23 for members to stop by and grab a sweet treat as we give our thanks. So be sure to stop by on Thursday so we can properly thank you in person.

50 Tips in 50 Days

MoneyTipNo.07: Using eStatements saves trees, de-clutters your mailbox, and costs the credit union less money – which means more money goes back into the credit union for members!

Sam I Am

May 5, 2011

Hello followers of NWGACU!

My name is Sam Knight and I am the new summer Marketing Communications Intern. I have already started working at Northwest Georgia Credit Union and have learned so much about the inner-workings of the credit union. I am currently a student at Berry College with a major in marketing and a minor in public relations. I can’t believe I am graduating in only two days! On Monday I start working full-time at NWGACU and I look forward to learning and accomplishing more tasks while I am here. I have only spent ten days here and already feel a part of the family.

I had a wonderful experience working at my first event for NWGACU and had a great time with Curious George last Saturday!

Curious George inside NWGACU!

Hope to see you soon at Northwest Georgia Credit Union!

We're Bringing Curious George to Rome!

April 20, 2011

That’s right. On Saturday, April 30 from 10am-1pm, Curious George will be at our Redmond Road location! Our “Sock It Away” Curious George event is the culmination of our Youth Month celebration, and it will be a fun and educational (and free!) event for your own curious little monkeys at home.

Here’s what we’ve got planned:

  • Free photos with Curious George
  • The first 100 kids to open their Little Sprouts or Acorn Club account will not only get a free sock monkey, but they’ll also get $25 in their account for free! (Don’t forget to bring your child’s social security card!)
  • Games on the lawn (shhh, don’t tell your kids, but they’ll be educational games.)
  • Giveaways, fun, and food!

Don’t miss this! It’s open to the community, and it’s just our way of giving back. We’ll be there, rain or shine.
